Washer Leaking Water
Where the water appears helps narrow the cause. Water in front of a front-loader often comes from the door boot or pump filter, while water at the back usually comes from the fill hoses or drain hose.
Safe checks before scheduling service
A symptom by itself does not identify the failed part. These simple checks may solve the problem or help you describe what is happening.
- Note whether water appears in front, behind or underneath the washer, and during which part of the cycle.
- Inspect the fill hoses and connections at the back for drips or bulging.
- Use only HE detergent in the recommended amount; too much detergent creates suds that can leak out.
Common causes
These are the causes we find most often. Only an in-home diagnosis can confirm which one applies to your appliance.
Torn door boot (bellows)
The rubber seal around a front-loader door can tear or get punctured by objects left in pockets, leaking water at the front.
Pump filter cap not sealed
If the filter cap on a front-loader is loose or cross-threaded, water leaks at the bottom front.
Fill hose or inlet valve leak
Worn hoses and cracked inlet valves leak at the back, often only while the washer is filling.
Drain hose or standpipe overflow
A drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe or a clogged house drain can overflow during draining.
Tub seal or tub leak
Water under the washer combined with a loud, rumbling spin can mean the tub seal and bearings are failing.
Important safety note
Turn off the water supply valves behind the washer if water is actively leaking, and unplug the washer before checking near the base.

Frequently asked questions
How often should washer fill hoses be replaced?
Rubber fill hoses should be checked regularly and replaced if they bulge, crack or are more than about five years old. Braided stainless hoses last longer.
My washer leaks only during the spin. What is the cause?
Leaks during spin often come from the drain hose, the standpipe, the pump or the tub seal rather than the fill hoses.
What is your diagnostic fee?
The diagnostic/service call is $45 and is waived when you approve the repair.
Does the online estimate include parts?
No. The $160–$220 range is an initial labor estimate only. Replacement parts, if required, are quoted separately before the repair.
